I will be taking the machine back to the Genius bar in Danbury Connecticut after Christmas. I was trying to figure out what the trigger was that was causing the flicker and found one issue that seems to guarantee a flicker, mousing over several hyperlinks at a certain speed. The flickering became more and more frequent. They replace the logic board and it seemed OK for about a month and then the flickering began once again. I took it back and they told me that the display was replaced but not the logic board. When I took it home and after a few weeks, the flicker returned. I took it back to the Genius bar and they said that the logic board and the display would have to be replaced. They replaced the logic board and the display and now the 2011 is working fine but now the new machine, mid-2014 flickering. The recall was very quiet and I found it quite by accident. After I purchased a new machine, mid-2014, I read where my 2011 MBP would qualify for a repair on recall. When I first took it to the Apple store they said there was nothing that they could do about it because the years warranty was up and I would have to purchase a new machine. instructables.I had a problem with my MBP circa 2011 with video issues, lines running through the display so that it was difficult or impossible to see the screen.: 13" MacBook LVDS Cable Display Cable.: My Mac's Screen Is Broken, Now What?.If you can't go to Apple for whatever reason: getting a third party advice might be a good idea, i.e. If that's an option for you: go to the Apple store and get a definitive diagnosis and discuss what your options are. You can buy a new one & try to replace it yourself as describe on "LCD Replacement", see "LCD Replacement step-by-step" on It does not seem like an easy thing to do though, see more on (LVDS)+Connector+-+What+to+do+now 3.b If the display itself is damaged You can buy a new display & try to replace it yourself as describe on you spilt a tiny bit of liquid on the screen & it sneaked down to the cable. Please post a comment if you do! 3.a If the data cable is damaged How do I know if the display or the data cable is damaged? That's the million dollar question, I did not find anything about this. either the LCD or the display data cable has an issue. The display data cable is "the main communication cable between the MacBook's logic board and LCD". If it's not the logic board, then what is it? Although his problem had nothing specifically related to the display.

So inspect the logic board LVDS connector carefully with a loupe to see if it has any signs of visible damage like liquid shorting out or melting plastic connectors."Ī friend managed to rescue his MacBook Pro by spending hours cleaning the logic board. It may be the logic boardĪs explained on this thread: "Remember that the problem can be on the logic board and not the screen- meaning you can have a logic board that works with external monitor and not the internal screen- but to no fault of the screen. This worked on an iPad I had to fix, but did not work on a MacBook Air right now. This is to restore connections, see this tip on Consider “cleaning the screen” or “gently push the back of the screen” If connection with external screen is fine 1. Multiple reboots in aĭoes this happen for you too when you reset the PRAM? Minutes, I'm back to the vertical colored lines. If the system is off for more than maybe 5 Resetting PRAM is the only way to boot and it Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.Press and hold the Command (⌘)- Option- P- R keys before the gray screen appears. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.One last thing to try is resetting the NVRAM/PRAM (I read this on a post once, I don't think it will work but it cannot hurt to try): You can try pressing the screen at certain points and see if it gets restored (This won't fix anything). If both the external monitor and the Macbook pro still won't display anything, it is a software issue. If the external monitor displays the screen, then your Macbook must have the problem (It's a hardware issue). As stated in my comment, to diagnose if it is a software or hardware issue (most likely hardware), try connecting the Macbook to an external monitor.
